Migration

Switch to Taskrol without losing your customers

The product can look right and still feel scary to switch. This page is the practical path — what you can bring over, what stays manual, and how to cut over without stranding open jobs.

If you are on Housecall Pro or Workiz, the customer list is not a project: upload the CSV your old system exports and Taskrol creates the records — no column mapping, no ticket, no waiting for us. Coming from Jobber or something else, email support@taskrol.com with your export and we load it with you.

Solo stays free forever for one technician and one company. Paid plans include a 7-day trial.

Import from Housecall Pro or Workiz yourself

Both importers live in the app under SettingsImport · Housecall Pro and Import · Workiz. Each one opens with the export steps for that system and an upload button. The file has to be a CSV; if your old system hands you a spreadsheet, open it and save as CSV first.

Housecall Pro — the customer export

In Housecall Pro open Customers, click Actions, choose Export, and confirm your email — they send a download link. Upload that CSV and Taskrol creates each customer with first and last name, display name, mobile, home and work numbers, email, notes, tags, lifetime value, and up to six service addresses. Use the customer export, not the jobs or invoices one. The export step by step, and what it leaves behind →

Workiz — the jobs export

Export your job history from Workiz as a CSV with one job per row. Taskrol creates the customers and their jobs together: job number, type, scheduled date, status, technician, address and city. Repeat customers are matched by name and phone, so the same person does not land in your database three times.

What you can usually bring over

  • Customers — names, phones, emails, and service addresses: one upload from Housecall Pro or Workiz, or a CSV from any other system.
  • Job history from Workiz — the jobs export brings the jobs themselves, attached to the customers they belong to.
  • Service / appliance notes — model, serial, and prior visit notes when your export includes them (or you keep them in a sheet).
  • Inventory lists — part numbers, descriptions, quantities, and locations you already track.
  • Open job context — we help you recreate active work in Taskrol rather than stranding tickets mid-week.

What is not automatic

  • Every historical invoice PDF and payment ledger from the old system.
  • Jobs from Housecall Pro — its customer export does not contain them, so open work is recreated.
  • A one-click importer for Jobber and the rest: send the export and we load it with you.
  • Third-party integrations unique to your current CRM.
  • Turning off the old account before techs know Quick Job and inventory.

Recommended cutover

  1. Start free on Solo (or a paid 7-day trial) and set company, techs, ZIP coverage, and van stock basics.
  2. Export customers (and inventory if you have it) from your current system.
  3. Upload the CSV in Settings → Import, then spot-check a few real addresses and appliances.
  4. Run a dry day: one tech books and invoices in Taskrol while the old system stays live.
  5. Pick a cutover morning for new jobs; finish old open jobs in the previous CRM or recreate them.
  6. Cancel the old subscription only after a quiet week with no stranded tickets.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a fully automatic import from Housecall Pro, Jobber, or Workiz?

Housecall Pro and Workiz have a built-in importer. In Taskrol open Settings, choose Import · Housecall Pro or Import · Workiz, and upload the CSV your old system exports — Taskrol reads the file and creates the records, with no column mapping to do and nobody to wait for. Jobber and everything else go through assisted migration: send the export to support@taskrol.com and we load it with you.

Can I import customers?

Yes. The Housecall Pro customer export brings first and last name, display name, mobile, home and work numbers, email, notes, tags, lifetime value, and up to six service addresses per customer. From Workiz, customers arrive together with their jobs. A customer list you keep in your own spreadsheet can be loaded with help from support.

Do jobs and invoices come over automatically?

Jobs come over from Workiz: the jobs export creates each job under the right customer with its job number, type, scheduled date, status, technician, and address, and repeat customers are matched by name and phone instead of being duplicated. The Housecall Pro customer export carries no jobs, so open work is recreated in Taskrol. Historical invoice PDFs and payment ledgers from the old system are not imported — keep the old account readable for a while if you need old paperwork.

Can I run Taskrol in parallel with my old CRM?

Yes — and you should. Run a dry day with one tech booking and invoicing in Taskrol while the old system stays live. Cut over new jobs on a chosen morning; finish leftover open tickets in the previous CRM or recreate them. Cancel the old subscription only after a quiet week.

Who helps with migration, and how long does it take?

Email support@taskrol.com with your export if you want a hand. Solo operators often stand up Taskrol in a weekend plus a few days of parallel running. Multi-tech shops usually plan one to two weeks: export, configure, train techs, then cut over. Timing depends on how clean your export is.

What if I only have spreadsheets?

That is often easier than a messy CRM export. Bring customer names, phones, addresses, and any appliance notes you already keep. We help you load the essentials, then build history going forward inside Taskrol.

Will my technicians need retraining?

Yes — plan a short walkthrough for Quick Job, parts on the job, and the phone schedule/map. Video guides on the site cover the daily workflow. Do not cut over every tech on the same morning without a dry run.
